ST. LOUIS NFL STADIUM

St. Louis NFL Stadium rendering

ST. LOUIS, MO

Since 1995 the City of St. Louis has been the home of the Rams after moving to the city from Los Angeles following the 1994 season. The city had previously been the home of the Cardinals from 1960 to 1987, losing the team to Arizona after the 1987 season. The Rams have played at the Edward Jones Dome in downtown St. Louis since moving to the city, with the exception of a few games at the start of the 1995 season. As part of the Rams contract with the city to play at the Edward Jones Dome, the stadium must remain in the top tier of stadiums in the NFL. This contract ended following the 2014 season allowing the Rams to seek improvements and renovations to the Edward Jones Dome or allowing the team to play on a year to year contract that could potentially let them relocate. Since 2012 the city has been reluctant to renovate the Edward Jones Dome. Following the 2014 season, owner of the Rams, Stan Kroenke, purchased land in Inglewood, CA (outside of Los Angeles) to build a potential stadium.

In an effort to keep the Rams in St. Louis the city unveiled plans to build a potential stadium along the Mississippi River, northeast of the Edward Jones Dome in January 2015. The open-air stadium would seat 64,000 and cost an estimated $985 million. Potential funding for the stadium would include $200 million (NFL), $250 million (Rams), $130 million (Personal Seat Licenses) and $350 million from the extention of the $24 million in tax dollars for paying down the debt on the Edward Jones Dome. The stadium could also house a Major League Soccer team. The future of this plan is unknown as the Rams have not committed to the project or announced potentional relcation plans to move to Los Angeles.
